White vengeance review

This is the second movie that has managed to confuse the hell out of me. If it were not for the rewind button (which I relied on HEAVILY) I would have been hard pressed in following the plot. Yes, it is that confusing and is somewhat helped (or not helped) by moving at a snails pace: Introducing characters but not introducing or fleshing them out well. The characters portrayed are full of wit and wisdom...a bit too much as like I mentioned before, this film is soooo confusing. Throughout its two hour plus runtime it never does let up on the complexity of the plot. If you are a fan of films like "confucius" or "the three kingdoms" and hold a keen interest in Sun Tzu's "art of war" then this would be an interesting watch for you. However, a fair amount of Chinese historical background knowledge is beneficial to fully appreciate this movie. Having seen two previous movies of director Daniel Lee I can say that this is by far his best and a close contender to the excellent "red cliff". To summarise, a movie akin to the game of chess where each side is constantly out thinking and second guessing each other and plotting their counter strategy well in advance and that is a fitting description. You WILL be bored and you WILL be entertained but above all...you WILL be confused.
