Vampire
movies nowadays are a case of pop culture vampires...alluring,
irresistible and sexy vampires (I’m looking at you “twilight”
series). A far cry from the vampires of “30 days of night” which
in my opinion is how vampires should be. In-fact even the film
versions of Bram Stoker’s famous Dracula (a favourite book of mine)
is guilty of the same; portraying the vampire in a similar way although not as
puke inducing as the “twilight” series. Credit due to where it it
er...due. Every so often films do get things right (as was the case
with 30DON”); step up “priest” an average film at best but with
the exception of bringing back vampires to the unholy undead and
shunned things that they are. Okay, so the story is not really note
worthy but for what the story lacks the action and the weapons shown
more than make up for it and as for the vampires, they invoke a
feeling somewhere between disgust and revolting not to mention nasty.
One thing I should mention is religion….yes religion: a topic of
interest to most and a topic of controversy to others. However, it is
woven into the story in such a way to make it into something that
most of us can relate to. There are a few one liners and other lines
of dialog that did produce a smirk from me. To sum up I would
recommend this to you but I would not go out of my way to find a copy
so if you do manage to see this, you’ll enjoy it but the story is
nothing to remember.
