Bram Stokers Dracula review

Finished reading the novel for the umpteenth time and gave this whirl. Out of all the different versions this one is the most closely followed to the book. Yes its not perfect and does have its flaws and does not follow the book too closely which if you think about it, if it did, it would be an extremely long film. But what it does have is good enough to impress and brings the story to its roots and gives us the Gothic love story rather than cheap scares and horror. Francis Ford Coppola did not have any major hit films since “the godfather” and needed to make a good film and what better way than to make a film that was rooted within popular culture. Gary Oldman is a good actor and in this movie he excels at even that. The other actors also did a more than adequate job with the roles given and the only slight misgivings come in the form of Keanu Reeves and Winona Ryders hilarious attempt at a British accent. Summing it up, I will say that this movie has nearly everything in it from love to scares. Truly, love never dies!
