Devils advocate review

Yeah yeah I know...this is an old film (1997 to be exact) but also one of my favourites. I can still remember how I came to see this little gem of a movie, I went to the cinema totally ignorant of what the movie was about and my best guess was that it was just another horror film and naught else, boy was I in for a surprise. Firstly I would like to point out that the reviews for this at the time were quite unforgiving but one does end up asking the question of what the critics refused to see in this highly underrated film? Yes, the acting wasn't top notch and Keanu (no offence to Mr Reeves) was in it. In fact this has to be one of the most intense and beguiling movies bought to celluloid in a long time. I for one sat transfixed on the screen; popcorn completely forgotten. To say that I enjoyed the film is an understatement as I also found a deeper and (dare I say) most disturbing message to it and message being of human nature and free will. All people have the choice between right and wrong but what I found disturbing it that human nature being what it is will most likely turn in the favour of greed, consequences be damned. In short, this is a film about the moral drama between good and evil. Adding to the benefit of the movie, the CGI is a worthy mention because it is used just about right making the whole cinematography a treat. This film is not easily forgotten once viewed so I would recommend it to any sceptics out there. This is a stylish and sexy horror/thriller with a good cast and a surprisingly good performance from Keanu who squeezes out some good acting but leaves the true master (Pacino) to his best. Once again, I would recommend to anyone willing to enjoy a meaningful story and a blend of excellent plays.
