Sling blade review

Reviewing old films seems to me to be a more rewarding experience rather than reviewing the latest blockbusters. The thing I look for in a movie is a good storyline and good acting. “Sling blade” fits the bill successfully and rightfully so as it did win an Oscar. Adding to this, you realise that having “highly elaborate” CGI effects is not a necessity to enjoy a film. Made on a moderate budget, Mr Thornton; as well as acting in the lead role and directing this feature, seems to enjoy his role and although it is an indulgently long running time, paces it well and creates a highly believable world in which the viewer is totally immersed. This was his directing début and what a début it is. If I didn't know better I would have thought Thornton to be actually mentally challenged that's how good his acting is. I am now looking forward to a second viewing of this movie with the feature commentry.
