Godzilla review

Godzilla gets the Hollywood treatment. Took my nephew to see this and although he enjoyed it, I did not. Call me cynical, old fashioned or what you will...CGI does not necessarily make a good film. Let me explain, the monster Godzilla is a metaphor for nature and natures fury is unadulterated chaos and mayhem (see where I am going with this?) without the need of human intervention which in many cases makes it worse. Not a bad movie but one that cannot really decide what it wants. The old Godzilla movies had the above simple message and worked just fine without the need of over rated special effects. The family love story feels tacked on and some of the dialogue is over simplified. Godzilla from the "Plasticine" age of films makes for more compelling viewing than this re-telling. If you go all doey eyed for CGI and “ooh aah” for over the top effects then by all means...go see this.
