Metropolis review

As I mentioned before, am a huge manga/anime fan but today have learned that anime can do epic sci-fi stories too. Sure in the past have seen everything from cute animation to the more explicit Hentai fare but this piece truly captivated my mind. When first started watching I didn't really care for its "cutesie" animation but 10 minutes in and I was hooked on the story. Based on Osamu Tezuka's 1940 manga and screenplay by Katsuhiro Otomo of Akira fame, this film does boast some very impressive credentials. Think of this like "Blade runner" with a 30's facade ; though the animation is faithful to Tezuka's original style and hence will not be to everyone's taste but does add to the overall tone of the film. The soundtrack is also worth mentioning as the jazz music sets a light mood fitting the visuals and capturing the atmosphere of the world of Metropolis.‎ On the whole, this movie tries to tell too much in too little time resulting in giving it a rushed feeling but if you are a fan of all things anime: give it a chance. this movie does grow on you over time and you do end up with an attachment to some of the characters. See it because of the gorgeousness of the film.
