Shaolin soccer review

Comedies are a dime a‎ dozen nowadays and every now and then a gem of a movie slips through the cracks setting up a beacon for others to follow. Released at the hight of bullet-time popularity (remember matrix), this film slipped under the radar for many and did not receive the attention it so deserved. Actor/director Stephen Chow was either lucky or knew what he was doing when he had this original idea. Even if you do not have a sense of humour this movie is guaranteed to provide you with one. Part kung fu action part sports movie with a generous helping of slapstick and a love story thrown in for good measure; this film would have been a proper money maker forthe distributor if it had been marketed properly. The awful dubbed version is in fact a plus point adding to said humour. On-screen chemistry between the actors and actresses is as good as can be. Martial arts are considered an old practise but this shows otherwise... implementing old with new. Chow had a good (hit??) film with this and did an even better job with the follow up "kung fu hustle. A good and overall funny film just don't choke on popcorn while watching.
