A Chinese ghost story review

Silly, absurd, wacky and a down right campy movie. Call it what you will. Truth be told; I enjoyed every minute of it. Maybe it's the romantic in me, it has to be said that there is a very mushy love story underneath it all. This film pulls off all (or most) stops; you have a lot of the ol' slapstick humour admittedly it is very childish slapstick and effects add to the overall tone of the film. Also you do get a nod towards the "evil dead" films towards the end but not in the way that you would expect. Elaborating further on the effects...what can I say ??? Not over the top but deliberately made to stand out and not in a distracting manner but rather adding to the pure goofiness of this fantasy/comedy (stop-motion anyone). Underlying it all is a moving love story which does give you a warm fuzzy feeling when it's all over. The story is simplistic and lacks any surprises but considering that it was based on a folk tale written in the 1700, comes as no surprise.. Take note that some peeps will not pick up on the fact that it is a tragic tale hand in hand with sacrifices that have to be made. I would recommend it as a must see
