the hitcher review

Ah yes, the good old 80s when movies were movies and fashion was.....well questionable! Films Between the periods of 1975 and 1990 in my opinion focused more on story, trying to outdo others with either action or story lines. This film I watched in the late 90s. Although made in 1989 it still is as suspenseful and nail-biting tense as when I first watched it and having watched it again I would say that Rutger Hauer plays an excellent villain in this as well as "blade runner" and "nighthawks". I mention these other two films as they are both a good watch but this one outshines them. Mr Hauer is terrifying in this appearing eerily wherever the hero goes. Performances of all involved do a good job but the one to really watch out for is Hauer himself. In no way is this a realistic film but being so unrealistic adds to its nightmarish overtone. Début of director Robert Harmon who used to be a cameraman (and it shows in  some scenes), this film is an incredible and surrealistic experience and a must see.
