Onibaba review

I am glad that I came across this as this truly is a gem of a movie. Set in the 1400's when wars were raging but this is not your usual war epic: rather this focuses on how the war effects poor people and what they must do to survive. it is a haunting piece and has a horror theme to it and also it is eerily creepy and entertaining to watch. On viewing this, I actually found this to be a bit more faster paced than most Japanese period dramas and for the initiated there are A LOT of psychological overtones to uncover. The cinematography of this film is well above par and one can easily see that each and every shot of this film was done meticulously and with a lot of love. For a 1962 film it is (for the time) graphic and has a few shocking scenes but I would highly recommend this film to everyone as it has the uncanny ability to entertain as well as to equally disturb. From now on I will steer clear of any wheat fields.
