Cruel intentions trilogy review

Phew...what an exhausting trilogy. Even though I watched these films on separate days allowing for time between each, each one was draining. As is often the case with trilogies (quadrilogies, pentologies etc...), the first film outshone the others; not to say that the follow ups were not good or anything, each had its own strengths and weaknesses but all of them had the same motifs. Like I mentioned earlier: these three films were emotionally draining and I wouldn't advise watching all three back to back unless you have nerves of steel. The first film includes a well known (not A list but not B list either) cast complete with believable acting and although some would argue about the stereotypical mentality of the characters portrayed, I would say that the mentality is somewhat more mature than the teen flicks coming out nowadays. You can almost see some of the cast actually having a blast playing the characters especially the two main leads played by Sarah Michelle Gellar and Ryan Phillippe. In the second film the lead actors are replaced by Robin Dunne and Amy Adams. On a side note this film will have more of an impact if one were to see Adams in "enchanted" before viewing this. This sequel is good but doesn't really compare to the original but watching Adams play a role like this (again, watch "enchanted" beforehand and you'll get what I mean) makes it worthwhile. Even though this is labeled as a sequel it is actually meant to be a prequel and a weird one at that as it just mimics the story of the first. Now for the third and last in the trilogy; for some odd reason this one didn't appeal to me as much as the first two but I put it down to tiredness...or it could be that it wasn't as intelligent as its predecessors. Whatever the reason may be it was still a small (if guilty) pleasure to watch and did answer some much asked questions. Once again the cast list was changed (maybe the actors found it draining to play such characters) and for me it wasn't as fitting. On wrapping up I would say that these three films are worth watching...okay the third one with a pinch of salt. In all seriousness though...it is an interesting trilogy. Depending on where you are living you will realize that there are people like this in the world (as sad as it may be).
