Funny people (2009) review

OK, so a film with two people I cannot stand...Jonah Hill and Seth Rogen (Sandler being barely passable) a recipe for disaster right...or so I thought. Far from being a comedy, this film gave a few chuckles but surprisingly it was also a pretty good human drama. Lets pretend that Jonah Hill doesn't exist throughout this movie as he is COMPLETELY useless (even as decoration). It is kind of sad seeing Sandler play a shadow of himself (whether this is true to life or written into the script is highly debatable) and as for Rogern, surprisingly he does a good job as an actor trying to uplift Sandler's characters spirits.  This actually came as a shock to me; I mean....c'mon....Rogern and acting?? I suppose miracles do happen. Furthermore I did have two MAJOR complaints: firstly this movie was waaaay too long and secondly the humour was hardly there. Yes it was delivered by funny people (pun intended) but it was mistimed and more or less about sexual innuendo and flatulence and aimed at a teenage audience. There are a few good performances in here the most stand out and shocking being Seth Rogern who does prove that he can act given the chance. Truth be told I wouldn't mind watching this again;  as a drama.
