Dune review

I remember...roughly around 2 decades ago when I was at school (equivalent to secondary school here) I started reading a book called "dune". Unfortunately, because we were in the middle of moving house, I only managed to read the first few chapters of this book before misplacing it and it was never to be found again (sigh) but what I do remember is that it did have a profound affect on me mostly because it mixed the English language with others. Later on when I came here the film off said book was on TV but because I was too busy with my college work I did not get a chance to see it. Fast forward to a couple of days ago and I managed to get and watch the special Edition of "dune" on DVD. Directed by David Lynch and featuring a cast of well known European and American actors this film was truly an experience. Yes it  was unintentionally funny in places but that is down to the actors taking their roles so seriously. However, I really enjoyed this movie; so much so that I will say that this was the second movie that I have seen that left me wanting to read the literature (first being "Shigurui"). Like the book, the film featured a melange of languages (well to be honest...a word or two thrown in). Even though I really enjoyed this I was left with a feeling of confusion at the conclusion because of missing plot holes in the narrative and adding to this I would go as far as to say that this was a film which wanted very much to be true to the in original source material but couldn't quite pull it off. To be quite fair to the director, there is only so much you can fit into 2 hours 17 minutes. Many viewers of this film will not like it and dismiss it as another bore but I for one enjoyed it. Looking forward to tracking down the book and reading it now. An epic on film but not long enough to do it justice. Watch and learn people... Watch and learn.
