Hansel and Gretel (Korean) review

Another film from a long line of Korean movies. Although the poster for it might give it away as "just another horror movie", it is actually more of a thriller\suspense flick. Much in the vein of films like "the doll master",
"into the mirror" or "the whispering corridor" movies this one will also keep you guessing right up till the end. Some might even put this into the fantasy genre (I did too among other things) and I suppose it could be classed as such if surreal fantasy nightmares are your thing. From the very first scene you know that things are going to turn nasty but you just don't know when. OK so we all have read or listened to the "Hansel and Gretel" story and so we know the basics (or do we?). We have also seen the few Hollywood translations of said story to little and big screen; this however, is very loosely (emphasis on the loose part)  based on the bedtime story and has more in common with the original Grimm tale. Anyway, this does have the ability to make you feel uneasy and even squirm at times and in true Japanese\Korean tradition it seems longer than it actually is. Some of you will find this a chore to sit through but as with most good thrillers...it is worth it.
