Rogue one review

Like the beginning of last year I am starting this years reviews with “star wars”. This latest addition to the franchise might seem a mixed bag to some as it does  bold new things; not only with the story but also a new direction with most of the visuals. The absence of the rolling story credits in the beginning is missing...okay, not a deal breaker but it is weird to see a “star wars” film without something that we are used to seeing. Also of note is the CGI...didn’t work so well for the prequel trilogy but in this one it does (or is highly debatable for some). Also I would like to point out that this latest movie is actually set outside of the “star wars” saga (shock horror) but don’t let that deter you because it is tied in to the whole thing and for avid fans this is a must see. Not only are we introduced to new characters but we do get to see some old faces and (very) memorable ones too. The entire latter third of the movie is a thrill to watch and does elevate the whole thing to well above par. Maybe it was because of “The force awakens” setting the bar so high and raising expectation of this film that I enjoyed it so much. It is a much darker story than before (might be a trend) but also features light comedic elements. Best of all, no Jar-jar-Biinks.
