Sunshine review

Danny Boyle really knows how to direct movies and "sunshine" is a good if somewhat unbelievable film. Moving at a snails pace but never a dull moment, this plausible cinematic extravaganza may not appeal to those of you who expect ballistic action and explosions every five minutes. Danny Boyle and Alex Garland, British born and bred, have outshone America's effects finest films like "Armageddon" and at a mere fraction of the price from the jaw dropping opening sequence to the fantastically realised final moments, this is a mighty treat for the eyes. Of course effects do not make for a good film (Godzilla comes to mind) and so writer Garland does a more than adequate job and pens a farfetched but yet somewhat believable script. Boyle and the cast also try their best in creating a believable scenario and do a good job. Overall I would say that this is not your typical sci-fi movie; there are no aliens to speak of, no space battles and no ultra-advanced CGI.  What you do get is a smart film with a philosophical tangent which leads to questions and ultimately the value of a single life weighed against the survival of humanity. An intelligent movie and worth seeing if  you’re a sci-fi buff.
