I'm going to generate a lot of heat from you readers for writing this review but you know what...so be it!! I re-visited these three films because of the hype surrounding it. Yes, I did go to the cinema on release day of all three movies and yes I did enjoy the trilogy but as of now I see it as being over hyped. Read the books when I was at primary school and using the mind’s eye, had a grand adventure. Forwards to 2001 and the big screen version of "fellowship of the ring". A jaw dropping moment of a masterfully told tale by Peter Jackson (brilliant director, just see his earlier work). Continuing with his outlandishly done sequels in 2002 and 2003 respectfully, the trilogy was a work of art and had established Jackson as a serious director. However, the films received too much hype. I would even go as far to say that nowadays it seems too much. I only watched these again to see how they stood the test of time which sadly, although still brilliant, are not worthy of the praise given a full decade after the initial release. The books go into much more detail whereas the movies, understandably so, have everything essential from the first novel, rewriting some scenes and dialogue with lesser characters for the leads, leaving out only what there wasn't enough time for. A great series of films and a recommended watch just ignore the hype going around.
