The doll master review

A south Korean horror movie this time appropriately titled “the doll master”. Now I have seen quite a few J-horror films and Korean ones in my time and they mostly hold some similarities with “the grudge” or “the ring”. You know the drill, girl with long hair moving in awkward stop-motion movements and so forth but not this one. This actually came across as a fresh idea for me; I mean ever since I watched “child's play”, dolls were always a scary thought. Hell...based on the cover alone you know that this isn't going to be your typical foreign horror flick. Not as scary when watching with others but if like me you watch this on your own with headphones on and lights off it does give you that feeling of unease. The dolls themselves are works of art and beautiful to look at but being in a room with such an ornament as this is bound to give anyone a pause for thought and when they start to be animate, ooh boy. Atmosphere is great in this film from creepy people to creepier dolls (yes I did turn the lights on at one point). In closing I would like to say that the story is deliberately slow enhancing the tension felt and if you are expecting anything along the lines of “grudge” or “ring” then you will be disappointed. But if you want a spectacular piece of writing with ALOT of twists then this will be a visual and nail biting treat for you. just don't have any toys or dolls nearby.
