Oculus review

‎Don't really know what all the fuss was about. I see this as an average run-of-the-mill film and whoever said "scariest ever" is probably scared of his own shadow. I'll admit; it does a good job of creating a creepy atmosphere and doesn't rely on heavy gore like most other horror movies and is a beautifully shot piece. The characters are also likeable and the mixing of the chronological order is nicely done. It is nice to see Hollywood going back to the times of simple and rooted in primal uneasiness horror. There is a "however" though and that is the one or two shock scares. Implemented well into the story but cheap is cheap no matter how you display it. Following in the tradition of movies like "ju-on", on the whole, is a good and atmospheric movie but trying it's best to copy a formula it just cannot pull off. Due to the absence of gore and any sexual scenes this is a film to watch with the family. "Oculus" is the first (of many....only time will tell) elegant horror movies and a step in the right direction for Hollywood.
