Elfie Hopkins review

OK I enjoyed "Sweeney Todd"  both the 2006 version and the 2007 musical. This like the 2006 BBC adaptation of "Todd" is in a similar vein (see what I did there). Starring the daughter of Ray Winstone in the lead role of Elfie Hopkins, this actually is more of a suspense thriller than a horror film and a pretty good one at that. While watching this and looking at set pieces and attention to detail in the smallest of things, I would say that it kind of reminded me of "sleepy hollow" and other movies portraying the 60s/70s era but maybe that's just me. Anyone who has read novels like "the Hardy boys" or even "Nancy Drew" (remember those?) will most likely enjoy this movie/drama as like in the novels it does focus on an amateur sleuth  and has a sidekick as well. Guest appearance by her father and actor Ray Winstone who is on screen for the whole of ten minutes (guess he did it as a favour to his daughter) but even so; a heavy hitter actors name in any production will promote the picture to no end. With a modest budget and a flick that doesn't really know what it wants to be: it is hard to say what kind of audience this is aimed for. It is not overall creepy nor is it a slasher movie, yes, it feature a cannibal motif but is a far cry from the Hannibal Lecter films all that I know is that I enjoyed it (at somewhat long drama running time  of 89 minutes). Worth watching.
