Yesterday review

I've seen Korean drama films and I've seen Korean horror films but never have I seen a Korean sci-fi film...until now that is. I would say that sci-fi isn't a strong suit for Korean directors but even with that in mind this is not a bad effort. Original title "yesuteodei" which (I'm guessing here) is translated as "yesterday" is a somewhat appropriate title. Starting out slow...really slow (seen more interesting drying patterns of paint) as if building up suspense but more akin to fleshing out or trying to flesh out some resemblance of a back-story. Surprisingly though; the more I watched this movie the more I was intrigued by it and slowly but surely got sucked into the plot. Korean films are good when they're telling a story of horror or even a period piece drama and as for this...it was a completely fresh and novel idea for me and did keep me hooked but only after the first twenty minutes or so (which did seem longer). A word to the wiser though: if you do decide to watch this then be prepared to leave your brain switched on throughout its two hour running time because if you don't concentrate then you'll be scratching your head wondering what the hell is going on. I wouldn't go as far as to say that I enjoyed this film but what I would say is that it kept my interest and was a new experience of Korean cinema. A rental at best.
