Bleak house review

My guess is that books written by Charles Dickens were part of every school boy or girls curriculum (was mine). To be perfectly honest, it actually boiled down to "Shakespeare" and "Dickens" out of which I preferred the "Dickens" books as they were easier to understand than the alternative. Not really the top choice for me (preferred "great expectations") but still a good read and the BBC dramatised version had me hooked from the get go. To be justified, it is not as good as the novel but still has enough twists and turns to keep you interested. As with all his books, you have your fair share of shady and despicable characters alongside bleak (no pun intended) surroundings. The cast list is spot on and most actors do a spectacular even surprising job of the role given to them reflecting (in most cases) the dirt and the grime of old London. Its been a while since I have enjoyed a costume/period drama such as this and I will say to ALL that this is ESSENTIAL viewing even if you don't hold any interest to the genre. DO NOT MISS THIS GEM!!!
