Star trek beyond review

I'll admit that in my youthful days I used to be a "Trekkie" that is until the conclusion of "star trek TNG" series. After that it just became a joke of sorts, too far fetched for its own good (for a lack of better words). Still: I do have the complete  "TNG" DVD's along with their accompanying magazines as well as the movies collection. Speaking of the movies...they were all entertaining up to a point and that point being the 2013 and 2016 movies. The first "star trek" reboot movie was a revelation and showed how a reboot should be done but the second one was more of a hit or miss. However, this latest one is (to borrow a phrase) "what were they thinking?" For starters, one of the writers is Simon Pegg...SIMON PEGG!!!  What the hell???? Yes he is one fine writer OF COMEDIES but for this he is sorely misplaced.Secondly, the director is Justin Lin (fast&furious) an action director and it shows. Lets get down to it folks; this film is an action packed dumbed down version riding in on the name of the "star trek" franchise just to cash-in on the big bucks. The story is non existent or to the more cynical of yous, full of plot holes the size of planet Jupiter. The only reason I sat through this sorry excuse of a film was to write this review. A big disappointment and  I wouldn't be surprised if Gene Rodenberry is doing somersaults in his grave.
